Hollywood Regency

Hollywood Regency-style is back in a big way. Made popular by designers in the 1930's, Hollywood Regency is defined by opulent fabrics (velvets, chenille), large and detailed furniture (tufted sofas), elaborate lighting, and pops of color. Antiques lend an authenticity to this style that's tough to replicate with reproductions or new pieces. Without some 'age', the extravagance of this style can quickly move from lovely to tacky. So look for an antique dresser or mid-century buffet table to lend some personality to your decor...anything goes with this design aesthetic!

DEFINITION: Danish Modern

Danish Modern is a term used to describe a minimalist style of wood furniture, usually made of teak, from Denmark popular in the 40's, 50's and 60's. The side tables I bought this week are this style, although they don't appear to be teak (which is probably why they were less expensive). I especially love Danish Modern credenzas and sideboards; usually they are a good height and pair well with different woods.

Also, if you live within driving distance of Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Ann Arbor Antique Market is this weekend on Saturday (8a-4pm) and Sunday (9a-4pm). It's a nice-sized show and there's good quality antiques in a variety of styles. Have a GREAT weekend!

I love, love, love this piece!

Lake Michigan Beach House

There's a terrific story in Chicago Home Magazine this month about a Lake Michigan beach house that I encourage you to check-out online or in print. The owners of this home have perfected the art of incorporating antique furniture into modern design. These antiques are anything but old and stuffy and, paired with this gorgeous home, are my idea of vintage design perfection.
